The Festival in the Park - the people

The Fire Brigade

In the distance are the rows of helpers lying on the floor
The following day I went to the festival again.  There was a big event on the other side of the park.  The fire brigade were putting on a display.  As displays go, it was quite big, but as displays go it was quite eeerm weird!  I have to confess that I got there towards the end of the display, but it was still weird.  Everyone was in some sort of uniform with Fire Brigade written on it, and when I arrived, most of the adults were lying on the floor half top to tail.  The whole line maybe about twenty meters long.  Maybe ten rows in all.  At one end of the row was a line of children with volunteer helpers coaxing them towards those who were lying on the floor.  As they arrived the children were lifted into the hands of those who were lying on the floor and manhandled from one end of the row to the other.  Why they were doing this, I don't know!  By the time the kids had been passed from one end ot the row to the other, half of them were crying.  They were then comforted by their carers.

Passing the children along the row...for some reason Jimmy Savile came to mind!

After the child handling event, the fire brigade prepared a CPR demonstration

Some other people.
The festival attracted lots of people and many wanted to be photographed with me, here are but a few:

A young now called Freya, from a local kindergarten with two of her students.  I had a pocket full of balloons to give out to the kids and a few small rubber stamps.  If it was England I think I would have been taken down the station for questioning.
Me and Freya.  Freya has left here home and family to find work in Jiangkou.  She lieves in a dormitory at the school which she shares with three other colleagues. She is really keen on learning English and has already invited me to breakfast!  A really nice girl!

Two of the ladies form the local supermarket eating some really nice bbq I bought them.  (so many people bought me food I had to return the favour!)
The lady on the left I only know by sight.  She lives near where I live and I often see her.  Today when I passed her she invited me to eat oranges and sunflower seeds!  Her friend is on he right.

As above, but with the additiom of the lady in black with the hat.  The police cook. (see next blog post)
As the evening came to a close there were still photo opportuniites.  I think a  lot of the local students are trying very hard to get a picture of tehe local foreigner in order to show it off to their friends.  Do they have bucket lists in China at the age of thirteen?
