The Journey home - part one. Zhongshan to Guiyang

Image
Originally I thought that the journey would be the reverse of the journey out which would have been the reverse of the one below: Taxi from Jiangkou to Tongren South Station and pick up my tickets Tongren South Station to Guyyang Station by train Underground, shuttle bus or taxi to Guiyang Longdongbao Airport Guyiang Longdongbao airport to Hangzhou airport by plane Hangzhou airport to Hangzhou East station hoping to get the high speed train here Hangzhou East station to Zhongshan. However, that was all cancelled and changed.  Now the journey home is split into parts.  Maybe two or three parts, not sure yet!  Today is part 1.  It should be: 1. Zhongshan to Guangzhou South 2. Guangzhou South to Guiyang 3. Two nights in Guiyang. As usual it will start with a big breakfast.  Then in theory checkout at 10am and taxi to Show station.  Let's see what happens! Well, I am now in the train to Guiyang! Worked more or less as planned! Julie meet me at the hotel in the ...

Zhongshan - Day 5

Image
Today I just wanted a day of local wandering.  I had arranged to meet Julie if she was free, but neither of us had the intention of an early start!  As usual, the day started with a big breakfast!   Then Julie sent me a text.  She suggested we go to a 'village' near the centre of Zhongshan.  We took a disk and headed off.  It was not possible to get a lift all the way, so we were dropped off nearby and walked in on foot.  When we arrived there was a fundraising event for the local kindergarten taking place in the small square.  It was just like any other fair in the UK.   We wandered around it and then headed off to the village.  It was more of an old quarter that had been selected by the yuppies to be cool.  There were designed restaurants here and there mixed in amongst some old buildings.  As usual, I looked for the unusual.  Icons an art gallery and got invited in.  It...

Zhongshan - Day 3

Image
This should be my day off...Let's see what happens! As usual, I started with a big breakfast.  Today they had bacon!  I stayed a little longer than usual!  I then went to me room.  Suddenly a message from Mailing with a location. "Suggest you visit here.". Julie confirmed it.  So off I went on an electric bike! I got there fairly quickly and wandered in.  Zhongshan Botanical Gardens.  Fairly new by the look of it, but a lot of potential.  Basically a huge park with reservoir and lakes situated right next to a busy roundabout intersection.  Inside, the  signs were in English too!  What a nice place to visit!..and free!  I wandered around taking photos.   A small lake with the city in the background The Chinese are very fire aware.  Here is the park fire station and Forest Firefighters mascot and badge. I wandered a round for an hou...

Zhongshan - Day 2.

Image
Didi, the market, Maylin, beggars, number 2 tea, the radio museum, a church, two temples, one park, two museums, and my first electric bike! AND root beer! The day started with my huge buffet breakfast.  Nice.  I later met Julie in the Hotel lobby and went to meet her friend Meylin.  Apparently Meylin can speak English very well.  Amongst other things today, we are going to visit a church, and a temple.  It sounds like an interesting day particularly because the church is in the poor area of the Western Commercial District and that is the area I had been in in yesterday! We started off by taking a didi taxi (similar to über) to meet Maylin. Julie taught me.how to use the app.  It is surprisingly simple to use except for the fact that it is all in Chinese!  On the way to the drop off I noticed a street market.  I love these, so when Maylin said she would be late, I asked Julie to accompany me there.  She was not so keen but came along.  I...
