A visit from Angela and my first durian
I was working hard on some conference when Angela texted me. Angela was the girl I met in Guiyang railway station when I first arrived. We had swapped WeChat and kept in touch. She had also taken me to KTV in Tongren when I was there. Now by a quirk if fate, she was my 'boss' as conference coordinator. She said she was coming over to Jiangkou and would meet me outside the school.
I met her outside the school and we took a taxi to a tiny restaurant to eat tofu. After that we went to a nearby fruit shop and she ordered a Durian! Never heard of or even seen one of those before! It was the size of a crown green bowling ball, brown and spikey. The greengrocer broke it open and took the issues out and put them in a plastic box. He then photographed it. I asked him why , and he said publicity. I asked him, through Angela if he wanted a shot of me with it. He jumped at the chance and took a photo of me with it in front of his shop sign. My brain was a bit frazzled from all the work and I didn't take any photos but below is one from the net.

Next we went to the supermarket bought a few things and got a taxi back to mine. We ate durian and chatted for a good few hours. The taste of durian and the texture us like nothing I know. But it tastes nice and I ate a lot. Angela's English is very good and I realised that it was the first proper conversation I'd had in English for three months! Excellent. We said goodbye, and she left. What a nice distraction that was! Thanks Angela.
