The guy from the post office.
The man from the post office
Before going to the bank to transfer some money, I went to where my boss said that the post office was. No one was there so I went out to the back room and spoke to a guy. He brought me out to the front of the office and between us we managed to understand that this office did not do international packages. Another guy appeared and we managed to confirm that this was the case. The guy behind the counter told me where the correct post office for international parcels was. It was over the other side of town.. a long way to walk in the rain. I left the office and went to get a taxi. I had already had enough of China's strangeness! The 'local' post office for local parcels! The second guy came out of the post office and it seemed offered me a lift. At first I was suspicious, as everyone tries to use their car as a taxi to get money of foreigners, but I thought I'd give it a try. He took all the back roads, and shortcuts and came out at the post office! He took me inside, sat me done and shouted something. A member of staff came out. She is the girl in the picture. I think her name was Yang Jian, he told her what to do and we got started. It turns out you need to have a Chinese National ID Card to send a parcel in China... and I didn't have one. The guy, Li Yunping asked if he could look in the parcel. I opened it for him and he sealed it all up again and offered his own ID card to send the package. After a lot of tooing and froing, we eventually got it all done. I paid. and he asked for a photo, as did the girl!
He then asked me what I was doing next and offered me a lift back to the other side of town. I told him that I was going shopping and to the bank. He drove me through the backstreets and we ended up at the supermarket. I managed to explain that I didn't need to go there, it was a misunderstanding. so he took me to the bank and said he would wait and take me home! I asked him out to lunch, but he said he had eaten. Anyway, I told thanked him deeply and told him he did not have to wait as I had a few things to do. We smiled and parted company. How good is that? I am in touch with him and Yang Jiang on WeChat. Jiang explained that he was the post office leader! Amazing!! Such a wonderful experience!
