The Wedding - part 3 of 4

Well if you were reading my last post then you'll realise that, whilst walking around Tongren, a young woman stopped and stared at me more than people usually do.  I used the usual, "Would you like to take a picture?". Not in the Liverpool sense of "Who do you think you are looking at!!?". But in a way that I know works here!  She said yes and we took a double 'selfie'.  I asked her if she was a teacher, and she said that she was, and that she had three foreigners with whom she worked.  She moved me off the main thoroughfare and we talked a bit, sometimes in Chinese, sometimes in Chinglish and sometimes through Google 'live translate' in conversation mode.  It was an interesting conversation, but we did not manage to say much.  She wanted something and after five minutes af trying to explain, I realised that she wanted the Google app that I was using.  Eventually we found it in her app store and she seemed content.  I said I had to go and offered her to scan my WeChat. ( Meaning we become friends in Chinese social media.)  I went to the wedding and back to my hotel.  On the way back, I got a message from her suggesting we meet later.  It seemed very forward for a Chinese woman that I had just met but it was only six pm, so why not!  I got a shower and asked where she was.  She said she was by the river.  I think I knew where the river was, but made sure I had my hotel address in Chinese in case I got lost!  She said if I walked to her, and she to me, then we'd meet on the street.  Now in Dorchester, that might work, but in Tongren in the dark in streams of people, it didn't sound like a good idea.  To cut a long story short, I ended up where she was and she ended up at my hotel!  I told her to wait there and frantically tried to remember the way back.  I got there and there she was.  She led me over to some seats in reception and the conversation began, but not as I expected!  The first question was "Are you a single man?"!  Interesting...alarm bells started to ring in my mind.  I told her I was married.  With Chinglish, English, Chinese and Google, She said she could not understand how I would leave my wife for a year.  She said she had a friend who wanted to learn English and, I think, wanted to be in an English environment to learn it and 'this friend' was seeking an English husband.  I told her it wasn't me.  I had a wife!  As she was talking, I took a photo. She made it clear that it she was taking a risk by talking with foreigners, reached over and pressed the delete button in the photo preview.  Fortunately, at this stage, my boss Jamie who I call 哥哥 rang me.  He was outside and waiting to take me out to meet his boss.   I told her I had to go and asked if she wanted to meet  哥哥.  She declined.  She said it was dangerous to be seen with too many foreigners.  I walked outside with her.  She said hello to 哥哥,and walked off.  I got in the car with Jamie and he drive off to meet his boss.
Still not quite sure what that was all about but I still get the occasional text from her asking if I know any single guys 'for her friend'.  Aah well you live and learn!
