Another day

Contacting my prospective employer is seeming a little problematic.  He has missed two contact times already.  I woke this morning and there was a message sent at my 00:45asking for a meeting at 08:30.  Fortunately I woke before that time.  I acknowledged the meeting and went and did some training.  Just as I was ending the training a message flashed up, someone was calling me, it was my prospective employer.  He cancelled the call and left a message.  I got back to him and told him Id be free in ten minutes.  We are now twenty-five minutes later and no sign of  my prospective employer, despite messaging him. I'm starting to wonder whether this is people in China in general or I am picking the wrong ones.  My mind drifts a bit and has me wondering whether unreliability etc. is the norm in China?  Then I wonder if I will even get my wages!  I was listening a friend yesterday who was telling me about life in Dubai.  All the workers that were 'imported' from Pakistan/India worked for six months, not paid and then flown home.  Hope China is not like that!  We shall see...possibly!

The Germans and my first ballroom dancing!

Well it started off as just another day.  I had popped into town between lessons and was walking back to school.  I felt that someone was looking at me, hat is not unusual being the only foreigner in town,   However this felt different.  I looked around and nearly missed them!  Two foreigners...Germans too!  We had a quick chat in English.  I can speak German quite well and treid to speak it but it came out as a mixture of German and Chinese...very strange!  As if the Germna space had been filled with Chinese!  I understood their Germna but could make no sensible German response!  So we talked in English.  I took the obligatory photo and swapped we chat addresses. More fun on the streets and a lovely flower.

After a hard day of work preparing for a conference, it was time to get osme fresh air.  I went for a walk, the opposite way to usual, down teh street opposite my flat.  There were people in the street repairing long metal apex roof sectioins with firbreglass, an few broked cars gradually being stripped by a garage for parts.  The nxt part of the street had what appeard to be the usual 'aunts' dancing, with an older lady with platted blond hair.  I waved, she smiled.  I caarried on walking ans spoke to a few others.   I rounded the corner and went to the few small shops near where I work.  There was a buch of 'aunts' geting ready to do their square dancing. 'Gannnies' getting ready to dance. Instead of just walking past, I went over and talked to the woamn in green.  I asked if they were going to dance.  She asked me to join in when they started!  Meanwhile some kids joned me and started trying to talk to me.  two o...

Things start to go wrong.

So it should have been simple, famous last words!  All I had to do was get my documents verified by a local notary, the Foreign and Commonwealth office and the Chinese Embassy.  Simples!  On , no! The college I went to no longer existed, and my teacher training college no longer existed, but I carried on regardless and by the end of December, all of my documents were 'Chinese legal'.  I imagined I was on the home straight.  I wasn't.  To cut a long story short, I was eventually told, at the end of February, that my contract would not be honoured due to 'insurance difficulties' connected with  my age.
